Reflection

This is by far my favorite year for my art. If you read the previous reflections or seen the navigation bar, you might have noticed that for 4 years I had sort of an art hiatus.College, art blocks, job hunting, internships... A lot of things were demanding my atenttion. Thank the Lord I managed to get a job at the end of 2024 that permitted my free time to be used only for my passion. Therefore, I made a personal art challenge. I made a list of 365 items that could get me to pick up the pen everyday after work to bring back that joy of making art.

My art block was due to several factors but I honestly believe it was mostly due to stagnation. I did the same poses, characters and gesturing without much thought. Very quickly sitting down to draw felt uninspiring, forceful and taxing. I had been using the same type of notebook for YEARS. Therefore I stopped drawing and took a step back. I noticed I had a lot of unused supplies and a lot of pinterest references stockpiled. That is what inspired me to make the list of items to begin with.

As you can tell I did not upload all 365 drawings, mostly because I learned this. Somedays your art will suck and that is ok. The important thing is to continue! Explore and diversify your materials, paper and medium. I strictly kept it traditional just because of the high amount of supplies I had sitting. And before I knew it I was enjoying making art again.

My favorite piece must be the Puzzle Bobble and the Kero Kero Bonito album. Very much an amalgamation of mixed media like acrylic pens, prismacolor pencils, pens and anything else I could find!
